- WPTF-FM originally simulcasted the AM station until they became mostly classical in the late 1960s and early 1970s. WPTF-FM simulcasted the AM station part-time until the FM station switched to rock music on December 26, 1972 and changed calls to WQDR. WQDR currently airs a country music format.
- WPTF radio was the sister of WPTF-TV from 1977 (when they changed their calls from WRDU-TV) until 1991 (when they changed their calls to the current WRDC)
- WPTF, along with WBT in Charlotte, North Carolina, are the two most powerful AM radio stations in North Carolina. WPTF, however is a Class B station compared to Class A station WBT in Charlotte.
- WPTF received recognition from the state of South Carolina for their coverage During the events and Aftermath of Hurricane Hugo. Thanks to their Directional signal pointing southward, WPTF was able to carry Emergency Information To the Charleston, South Carolina Area, which was without Electricity so many stations in the area were off air.
